Astro Vellithirai pays tribute to MGR this Deepavali

SINGAPORE: In conjunction with Deepavali, Astro Vellithirai is pleased to premier a new programme, MGR 100, celebrating the legendary life of Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran (“MGR”) an unparalleled icon in the Indian cinema industry. MGR 100 will premiere on Astro Vellithirai (Singtel TV Channel 624) as a Deepavali special programme on 30th October 2016 at 8:30 pm.

MGR 100 chronicles the many achievements of M.G. Ramachandran, whose movies, songs and lyrics have inspired and touched the hearts Singaporeans. MGR is the only legendary South Indian Actor and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, renowned worldwide for his powerful acting, mannerism, well-regarded philosophy, generosity and human privileges. Singaporeans had a chance to meet him personally in 1973 when his film Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban was shot extensively in many tourist attractions. Singaporeans from the yesteryears were mesmerized by his songs, lyrical voice and acting prowess. The Singapore MGR associations continue to honour his life’s works by continuously organizing many stage events for charity.

Thus, this Deepavali Astro Vellithirai aspires to celebrate MGR’s legacy with a 13-episode of special programme called MGR 100 in honour of his 100th birthday. MGR 100 is fully shot in Singapore, featuring interviews with MGR fans, MGR associations, VIPs such as Mr. K Kesavapany, the Governor on the Board of the Singapore International Foundation and President of the Singapore Indian Association and Mr. S. A. Nathan, the Former Indian Movie News Managing Editor. We have also interviewed some artists such as Mr. Venkat, Mrs. Rajeswary and many more have shared their favourite movie scenes, songs, philosophies and thoughts on MGR. This programme will have popular film scenes, dialogues, songs, comedies and action scenes from MGR films.
