Avocados- Some hidden facts

Recently, everyone is intrigued by “super foods” that help to reduce weight. Studies prove that consuming certain fruits or vegetables; accelerate our metabolism thus helping to lose weight. Also, including protein rich food in your breakfast and lunch makes you feel fuller for longer, so that consumption of food can be reduced.

One such fruit is Avocado. It contains Mono saturated fat and high fiber which are considered to be really beneficial to us. Also, according to Wikipedia, after a seven-day diet rich in avocados, mild hypercholesterolemia patients showed a 17% decrease in total serum cholesterol levels.

That means this amazing fruit helps to reduce LDL and Triglyceride levels up 22% and helps to increase HDL (good cholesterol) by 11 %.

There is no harm in giving it a shot, right?

Thinking of Avocado, I guess, most of you would think only  Guacamole; a Mexican dip or literally, “avocado sauce”. Guacamole recipe is available in “deepsrecipes” food blog.

One of the easiest yet delicious options is the Avocado smoothie, which can be included in your breakfast.

Anyways, today’s recipe is a Green Salad with avocado as main ingredient. This  is really a detox salad.

Preparation time: 10 mins

Cooking time: No Cooking (takes 2 minutes to blanch Broccoli if using)

Serves: 4

Ingredients

1.            Mixed salad veggies- Broccoli, Cucumber, Baby spinach, red Onion

2.            1 Avocado, peeled, cubed

3.            Coriander leaves

4.            1 tbs Lime Juice

5.            Salt & Pepper

6.            Garlic- 1 clove

7.            Olive oil- 1-2 tbsp

8.            Strawberries

Blanch Broccoli

Boil water with a pinch of salt and vinegar.

Let broccoli florets blanch in this boiling water for a minute. Remove and let it cool before you add it to the salad.

Salad Dressing: Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette

Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette is a simple yet delicious as well as healthy salad dressing.

How to Prepare this Green Salad?

1.            Cut all the veggies into small cubes. Add blanched broccoli. 

2.            To make Cilantro-Lime Vinaigrette

Puree coriander leaves, garlic, lime juice, salt, pepper and olive oil in a blender until smooth.

3.            Top the veggies with this dressing and serve chilled.
