Silkair and Singapore Airlines increases free check-in luggage weight limit

Singapore:Passengers on all SilkAir and Singapore Airlines flights will enjoy more free checked-in baggage allowance from tomorrow, 15 November 2013.Checked-in baggage allowances will increase by 10 kg for all classes of travel. Customers will be entitled to free baggage allowances of 50 kg in suites and first class, 40 kg in business class and 30 kg in economy from Friday (November 15) on all SIA and SilkAir flights.

"Increasing baggage allowances across all classes of travel is in response to feedback from our customers and reaffirms our commitment to constantly enhancing customer service," said Chin Yau Seng, SIA senior vice-president sales & marketing.KrisFlyer Elite Gold members will continue to enjoy an additional 20kg of baggage allowance across all travel classes.PPS Club members will also continue to be entitled to double the checked-in baggage allowance in their respective class of travel.

Besides the higher baggage allowance, SIA plans to redesign its website to be more “intuitive, friendly and easier for customers”, said Chief Executive Goh Choon Phong.Mr Goh added that the firm will continue to focus on its operations in Asia, including increasing the number of routes flown by its subsidiary Scoot and expanding into India through a joint venture with Tata Sons.The reason why we’re expanding more in Asia is because Asia remains one of the higher growth areas, and we’re able to see that demand for travel continues to match the capacity that we put in,” he said.
