Bhaskar’s Arts Academy’s one-night-only premiere of Advaith on 27 June 2015 at 8.00 pm at the University Cultural Centre Theatre.

Advaith is the latest full-length choreographic work of Cultural Medallion recipient Santha Bhaskar, and Bhaskar’s Arts Academy resident kathak exponent Pallavi Sharma.

Advaith

“When and where will I find the ocean? Who can give the ocean to me?” asks the wave. But the wave was always the ocean, from the very beginning. It’s the ocean seeking for itself.

The wholeness or completeness that one seeks is not to be found in the future. It is actually already here within this present experience, within this present moment. That is the concept of “non-duality”.

Using the vocabularies of Bharatanatyam and Kathak, Advaith – a Sanskrit word that simply means “not two” – explores the truth of this notion and its relevance to the dancer and her  dance. The experimental work delves into this rarely-explored concept and discovers the underlying similarities behind the obvious differences of these two dance forms.  And that in the end it all points to the essential oneness of life; a wholeness which exists here and now.
