With ten years of experience in the field, filmmaker Shilpa Krishnan Shukla has touched upon every genre of moviemaking there is. Through this journey, one factor remains constant โ€“ you canโ€™t watch a Shilpa Krishnan Shukla movie without experiencing some level of catharsis. Her latest offering, Tashi, is no different. With her signature knack of portraying the stark realities of interpersonal relationships, Shilpa tells the story of a family coming to terms with the eventuality of mortality without actually portraying loss onscreen.

The picturesque outdoor shoots showcase the beauty of Singapore, while providing the perfect compliment to the actorsโ€™ nuanced performances. Every actor delivers exactly what is necessary, with the director ensuring the perfect balance of spoken and unspoken emotions. Often, the poignant silences say as much as the impactful dialogue delivery.

Ila Maheshwariโ€™s emotive and passionate iteration of the matriarch wins the audienceโ€™s affection from the minute her vibrant presence is felt onscreen. She makes it hard to believe that she is a debutante! Charan Singh and Tanya Mukherjee play characters with polarizing viewpoints and positions, and their honest portrayals fight for the audienceโ€™s empathy. Sai Pogaru plays an adorable young man, coming of age but equipped with a sturdy sense of self โ€“ a refreshing change from the usual stereotypes of youngsters on screen. But the star of the movie is Anvita Gupta, who completely transforms herself into the stoic, diligent and simple-minded maid. With her faultless dialect modification and carefully adjusted by language, she carries the layered character with unbelievable ease.

All five characters are on completely different journeys, but the movie zooms in on a moment at which they all seem to be at a unique personal crossroads. Together, they take each other and the audience along on their road to resolution.
